If you believe as we at VICCTRE do, that the usefulness of horses can last their lifetime, we encourage you to help them have a second chance. VICCTRE horses need buckets of love and bales of care. We bring neglected horses back to health, rehabilitate racers to become pleasure or other types of riding horses, we assure adoption with a future that bars breeding and racing. You can share in their journey to a new life. Help us help the horses of the Virgin Islands.
VICCTRE always has one or more horses in residence awaiting adoption. Though they get all the free mangoes they can find, these delicately bred creatures need so much more. Hay, feed and vet products are shipped to the island and therefore come at a higher price than for horseowners in the States. For a minimum standard of care consider the following when choosing the value of your sponsorship:
Farrier (every 6-8 weeks) - $40
Equine dentist (every 6-12 months) - $80
Wormer (every 6-9 weeks) - $15
Bag of Feed - $12 (lasts 2-3 days)
Bale of Hay - $62.50 (lasts 7-9 days)
Fly Spray - $24
1 dose of antibiotic - $12
Vaccines - $125
Being in the Caribbean poses additional costs when moving a horse to an adoption center such as the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation or Habitat for Horses farms. Consider the costs of shipping:
Blood Testing & Health Certificates - $250
Quarantine - $950
Barge to Puerto Rico - $300
Airflight to Florida - $1950
Transportation outside of Ocala, FL - $500 +
It's easy to sponsor a horse. You may want to send a one-time donation for the horse of your choice or you may want to send a continuing gift. Visit our horse page to meet our current horses in residence. Then select a sponsorship level. Write your check to VICCTRE and mail it to:

Volunteers and donors may visit the St. Thomas Dairies property where VICCTRE is located to meet and participate with the horses on a scheduled basis.
